Introduction to the black side.............

For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

Samson Projects is pleased to participate for the 4th time at Zona MACO México Arte Contemporáneo art fair with new works by Jeffrey Gibson, Suzannah Sinclair, Craig Drennen and, introducing to the program, Matthew Rich.

Matthew Rich (b. 1976, Boston, MA., lives and works in Boston) recently had solo exhibitions at devening projects + editions (Chicago, IL) and The Suburban (Oak Park, IL). A large scale public, site specific installation will be on view shortly at NorthEastern University (Boston, MA). He received his BA from Brown University (Providence, RI) and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has a solo exhibition with Samson Projects in the Fall.

Craig Drennen (b. 1966, Elyria, OH, lives and works in Savannah, GA) received his M.A then MF.A from Ohio University. He currently has a solo exhibition at Gallery Stokes (Atlanta, GA).

Suzannah Sinclair (b. 1979, Frankfurt, Germany, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY) recently had solo exhibitions at Galleri Loyal (Malmo, Sweden) and Voges + Partner (Frankfurt, Germany). She has a solo exhibition with Samson Projects in Spring of 2010.

Jeffrey Gibson (b. 1972, Colorado) currently is included in Surveillance curated by Rachel Vancelette at A ffirmation Arts (NY, NY), Solutions curated by Janet Phelps at DiverseWorks (Houston, TX) and Recent Acquisitions, Eiteljorg 2008-09 Fellows at the Eiteljorg Museum (Indianapolis, IN). He has solo projects on view; Totems at Sala Diaz (San Antonio, TX) and at the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts (Princeton, NJ). His work will be included in Signs Taken for Wonders curated by Isolde Brielmaier at Jack Shainman Gallery (NY, NY). Gibson and Jackie Saccocio have an exhibition at Samson Projects in 2010.
