Introduction to the black side.............

For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

Volunteer Design Services Needed ASAP!

The following project requires a very quick turnaround; drawing concept and description services are needed for a June 9 community meeting.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

CLIENT: Haley House Bakery Café is looking to acquire a new lot of land to accommodate and expand the variety of services it provides the Dudley Square community and beyond. The client is visioning a new green building (they'd like to be the first platinum café in Boston) facing Washington Street in Dudley Square (across from its current Dade Street location) to house a cafe and 'scoop shop' with outdoor seating on the street level, middle income housing community programming on the upper levels, and a green roof garden to supplement the fresh produce used in the cooking program and café fare. The building would also include living space for a volunteer community, using a bio fueled delivery vehicle, supply storage, and a loading dock.

PROJECT NEED: To produce a one page 8.5 x 11 program handout of a drawing that captures the concept, and a written description on the reverse side, for the client to hand out at community meetings, and to present to city agencies and community organizations in hopes of mobilizing support and acquiring the land for this building project.

DESIGN EXPERTISE NEEDED: The design team should have strong urban design experience (familiarity with Dudley Square is a plus but not required), LEED certified/strong knowledge of green building concepts, strong and convincing writing skills, ability to create concept ual presentation renderings/illustrations, and good verbal communication skills.

Please submit your interest along with your individual, team, or organization's profile to info@cdrc-boston.org.
