Introduction to the black side.............

For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

--------------
Registration is now open for Boston's first Design Build Challenge!
The Design Build Challenge is a national design and construction competition that focuses on built responses to community needs. The event will take place June 18 - 21st, as part of Common Boston Weekend, Boston's only free, public festival of community and design. The festival theme this year is "Designing a livable city for families." Participants in the Design Build Challenge will have 72 hours to design and create projects that encourage community participation within a dense urban environment and benefit families living in the city.

Teams and individuals from around the country and from all disciplines and experience levels are encouraged to participate. Competitors will be asked to work with to-be-announced clients and sites to find design solutions addressing the social, economic, and environmental benefits of city life. The challenge aims to prove that, even when created in just three days, an influential and sustainable response to a real problem can alter our urban fabric and benefit the community.  The registration deadline is June 3rd.
