Introduction to the black side.............

For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

=0 A Building on Switzerland's excellent reputation in the field of design, swissnex Boston hosts the Design Preis Schweiz (Swiss Design Award) exhibit on its tour through North America from January 27 to February 6, 2009. Featuring groundbreaking works by talented Swiss designers, the exhibit showcases select pieces from the prestigious biannual awards. Held every two years, Design Preis Schweiz is a product of the Design Center Langenthal. It is a prestigious happening in the Swiss design industry, encouraging innovation, serving as a stimulator for market-oriented design ventures, and presenting design as a factor of market success. Innovation-fueled design and design-fueled innovation are emphasized through 5 award categories: Market, Newcomer, Research, Swiss Textile Design and Swiss Product Design. The award competition itself is always followed by a touring exhibition that takes the road for a period of 2 years. While the exhibition has so far been shown in all major European design cities including Milan, Paris, London and Berlin, swissnex Boston will be the second to host the event on North American soil, after a successful display at swissnex San Francisco. The Boston version of the show focuses on industrial design, with potent asides in fashion textile and graphic design, and shows a keen bent on supporting innovation and sound direct-to-market approaches, including the works of NOSE Design Intelligence, COMA Amsterdam/New York, Ruckstuhl, Beth Kottonau, Martin Woodtli and many more.
