Introduction to the black side.............

For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

Dear Jay,

Don't forget!  The Nora Theatre Company's inaugural production at Central Square Theater starts this Thursday, September 4 and making a night of it has never been easier.  See below for details on the many options Central Square has for parking (including valet!) and dining!

The Nora Theatre Company presents:
Nobel Prize-winner Dario Fo's satirical comedy
We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay!
Translated by Ron Jenkins
Directed by Daniel Gidron (IRNE award nominee - Best Director, Drama, Small Theater for The Nora's Buried Child)

The housewives have had enough!  Prices are high and getting higher!  In this madcap play of politics and hilarity, Antonia's outrageously tall tales spin out of control as she takes Margherita along for a wild ride, doing their level best to evade both their spouses and the authorities.

Dear artists:

We'd like to get feedback from YOU about your needs for artist workspace, live/work space, and community arts space.  You can influence the creation of permanent space for artist uses in Boston by participating in a focus group.  See schedule of groups below.  More groups will be announced in early 2009.

ARTIST SPACE FOCUS GROUPS
Please help us better guide development of space for artists in Boston.  A series of 75-minute focus groups will be held starting in fall 2008 to solicit information about the needs of different artists for space.  Please join one if you can.  Call ahead to RSVP and indicate if you need childcare: (617) 918-4306.

October 6, 2008, 7PM:   Artists who would like to develop work-only studio space with other artists are asked to join this discussion to encourage collaborative projects.

October 20, 2008, 7PM:  Artist households with children (who are also welcome at the other focus groups) are invited to provide feedback about your particular space needs.

November 3, 2008, 7PM:  Musicians needing space are asked to tell us about the kind of space you are looking for in Boston.

If the date or time listed is not workable for you, please send an email to Heidi Burbidge indicating your interest and scheduling preferences. More groups/additional topics will be scheduled in 2009.

The BRA is also holding focus groups to gather citizen input to help improve the BRA's general website. If you can participate, please send and email to Kristin Phelan.
