Introduction to the black side.............

For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

Fwd: Films at the Gate 2008, Sept. 3-7th

Hi everyone,

As we reluctantly approach the end of summer, at least you can count on five exciting nights of fabulous entertainment at the Films at the Gate 2008 in Chinatown, just steps from the Chinatown Gate and new Chinatown Gateway Park on the Rose Kennedy Greenway!

This year, on Friday September 5th, we're featuring the WORLD PREMIERE of Devil Music Ensemble's original live performance score for Red Heroine.  A stellar example of the golden era of Shanghai silent films, Red Heroine was made in 1929 and is the oldest surviving Chinese martial arts film!  This premiere kicks off Devil Music Ensemble's U.S. tour of this performance and screening, and it all started right here in Boston Chinatown!

Also, on Friday, we're arranged for a special World Premierer/FATG2008 dinner at Imperial Seafood, just steps away from our outdoor theater on Hudson Street.  Tickets are $50 per person, and all proceeds go towards supporting the FATG and our incredible youth leadership program A-VOYCE (Asian Voices of Organized Youth for Community Empowerment).  And then after dinner you and your guests can join us for the world premiere event!

To book tickets for this dinner, please email Iris Tan (iris.tan@asiancdc.org) with guests' names and contact information.  Payment can by made by check or online.  Tickets will be issued at the restaurant entrance.

More information about Films at the Gate 2008 at www.filmsatthegate.org.  The poster (sure to be a collectable in the future!), and postcard announcing the event are attached.  Please do feel free to spread the word!

Films at the Gate is one of the ways that the Asian Community Development Corporation and A-VOYCE work together with the community to promote Chinatown and build leadership.  Each year, over ¾ of the FATG audience members buy their dinner at a local restaurant, about half have never been to Chinatown before, and almost all plan on coming back!

Thank you for your help and support.  We hope to see you at the movies!
