For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

reenactment The Siege of Boston in Roxbury & Dorchester
Revolutionaries, royal governors, and soldiers all once called Roxbury home. Visit their former homes and fortifications on a trolley tour which traces the route local militia* took from Roxbury to Dorchester on March 4, 1776 to force the evaculation of the British. Sites include the Dillaway-Thomas House, the Shirley Eustis House, and the sites of the Roxbury low and high forts.

Trolley departs Back Bay Station and Roxbury Heritage State Park. The tour is this Saturday, September 27, 2008. 10AM-12PM. Book the t our and select your pickup by choosing an option below:
9:30AM: Back Bay Station (Dartmouth St. entrance)
10AM: Roxbury Heritage State Park, 183 Roxbury St

*Local militia not included.



Sun Goddess ArtWalk during ArtROX!
The theme for the 10th annual Roxbury Open Studios is ArtROX! Over 100 visual artists from Greater Roxbury will be on display across the neighborhood. As part of ArtROX, Discover Roxbury has organized ArtWalk. Guided by Candelaria Silva, former Director of ACT Roxbury and one of the founders of Roxbury Open Studios, the walk will visit the 7 artist studios and group shows around Fort Hill. This is a fantastic opportunity for art lovers and the art curious to view one-of-a-kind work, visit home studios, and not get lost in the maze of Fort Hill's streets.
