| | For Immediate Release Contact: Lisa Crawford | | | | 2008 Annual NOMA Conference "EVOLVE: Expanding Our Horizons" | PRESS RELEASE DCNOMA Announces Fundraising for 2008 National Conference The District of Columbia Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (DCNOMA) hereby announces the issuance of a Request for Sponsorship Proposals (RFSP) seeking financial sponsors for the National Organization of Minority Architects 36th Annual International Conference and Exposition (NOMA 2008) which is planned for October 2 - 4, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. This international conference will build on past conferences to celebrate our 36th anniversary milestone and pay homage to the efforts of the past that have brought us where we are today. The conference theme, EVOLVE: "Expanding our Horizons" is aptly put. The NOMA movement has evolved from what began in 1971. Evolution infers change, but not just change for change's sake. In fact the change is the growth that has been built on the past; by improving and changing to meet new challenges and opportunities. Our evolution as architects has been shaped by and has responded to external relationships and factors. NOMA 2008 will encourage collaboration among partnering organizations, businesses and local universities. "Expanding our Horizons" relates to the concepts of broadening career options, growth and dynamism of NOMA as an organization; it's also an umbrella for including a global element, and educational tracks on a variety of directly and indirectly architecture related topics. Approximately 500 attendees are expected to take part in the event including delegates from outside the U.S. Highlights of the conference will include keynote speaker Marshall Purnell and guest speaker (tentative) David Adjaye. American Institute of Architects' 2008 President, Marshall Purnell, is the mid-Atlantic regional director and design principal of Devrouax + Purnell Architects and Planners PC, Washington, D.C. David Adjaye is recognized as one of the leading architects of his generation in the UK and in the last year he has won important commissions in both Europe and the United States. Conference management is being coordinated by DCNOMA, which is seeking sponsors to fund the major costs of the program. Several levels of sponsorship are being offered. One Diamond level Sponsor in the amount of $25,000; one Platinum level Sponsor in the amount of $15,000; Five Gold level Sponsors in the amount of $5,000; Ten Silver level Sponsors in the amount of $3,000; and Twenty Bronze level Sponsors in the amount of $2,500 each. In addition, exhibitor opportunities, program ads and in-kind donation items will be available. The fundraising initiative is being co-chaired by Lisa Crawford and Delicia Karim. Lisa is Director of Media Relations and a member of DCNOMA's Executive Board. Expressions of priority interest from major prospective sponsors are sought on or before January 15, 2008.
