Introduction to the black side.............

For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

Fwd: blogs

Subject: RE: blogs

Hello, all!

A few follow-up links related to setting up a website/blog:

www.utiledesign.com - Utile has an excellent site which I think could provide us
a good example for the setup of BosNOMA's site

www.inhabitat.org - This blog on green design in all its forms is run by a group
of young professionals, and has a list of both core team members and a variety
of contributing writers from all over the world. They also sell advertising in
the right-hand column of their site, through a company called Blogads
(www.blogads.com).

Both of these sites use a blog platform called WordPress, which is very highly
regarded. Their version with free blog hosting - www.wordpress.com - is easy to
set up and manage for users with little to no technical expertise, but doesn't
allow a lot of customization. I'm not sure if we would be able to sell ads with
that version. The version that requires you to install on a separate web host -
www.wordpress.org - requires more know-how in the setup and management, but also
allows us to do more custom stuff with it. They have a page describing the pros
and cons of each option (http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/wordpresscom-vs-wordpressorg/)
and they also have many other helpful FAQs on the site.
