Introduction to the black side.............
For a while I have been concerned that the black side of life and design here in the city of boston gets overlooked. In a city that is 51% minority with a Black Governor, why do we have to work so hard to know about all the exciting things that are happening in the city? Therefore the goal of this blog is to pass along information about events, activities, job opportunities and restaurant reviews from a minority perspective. The Black side or hidden side of life and design here in Boston is the scope of what you will find in the posts. And some occasional commentary will also make its way to the web. Enjoy!

"Come join in on Harvard's Second Pechakucha Night at the GSD, Oct 12th.
Instead of just beeing an internal GSD-only event, it will aimed at the entire Boston Design community, so I want to invite to join in and give a brief lecture the likes of which you may have never given before at the GSD. It's about much more than architecture, too - practitioners in Graphic Design, Product Design, Urban Design and everything in between are encouraged to participate.
If you didn't already know about it, PechaKucha is an informal, open format of presentation that seems like an ideal way to showcase not only the extraordinary achievements of the GSD community, but also the amazingly talented people in the Boston area. Instead of just a workshare presentation, we would love to hear from a lesser known side of your designer selves.
What that is, we leave to you. You may be familiar with the diabolical format Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein came up with for PechaKucha: 20 images (jpegs
1024x768) x 20 seconds each. The slides appear automatically, so there's no stopping or going back.
Add to that, you and a microphone. It's quick, diverse, inspiring and most of all, fun. This PechaKucha Night will be a big party.
We would like to have 15 presenters comprised of Students, Faculty and Professionals from the Boston area to show what they love or what they love to do in that unique PechaKucha way.
If you will be in town and are interested in revealing a bit of your designer's alter-ego, please contact Brett Stilwell at brettstilwell - at - gmail.com or Ivan Shumkov,
Alumni representative for Student Forum. His email is: ishumkov - at - gsd.harvard.edu."
